Eku Energy commissions 67MW/111MWh battery storage project to provide balancing services for National Grid
Eku Energy has commissioned two UK battery energy storage system (BESS) projects totaling 67MW/111MWh to provide grid balancing services. Now fully operational at sites in Basildon, Essex, and Loudwater, Buckinghamshire, these projects mark the company's further expansion in the UK energy storage market.
The Loudwater project (39MW/55MWh) has its energy trading managed by Statkraft Energy, while the Basildon project (28MW/56MWh) represents Eku Energy's first two-hour duration battery system in the UK, with trading handled by Habitat Energy. For both projects, NHOA Energy supplied the BESS equipment and will provide long-term operation and maintenance services, with ESM Power serving as the Balance of Plant (BoP) contractor to ensure efficient project operation.
Daniel Burrows, CEO of Eku Energy, stated: "The commissioning of Loudwater BESS and Basildon BESS enhances the diversity of our operational portfolio in the UK and creates more opportunities to support our customers through structured and innovative long-term contracts." Lucie Kanius-Dujardin, Global General Manager of NHOA Energy, added: "These projects demonstrate how trust and high-performance partnerships are essential for the energy transition, requiring close coordination from both sides to deliver the two sites in parallel." The projects are now operational. Eku Energy is co-owned by funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI).
