US Origis and Pioneer Sign 65 MW Solar + 25 MW Battery Storage Project, 20-Year Power Supply Agreement Supports District 13 Expansion
Origis Energy, a leading U.S. platform for renewable energy and decarbonization solutions, and nonprofit electricity provider Pioneer Community Energy announced the signing of a 20-year agreement for the Chalan Solar Plus Storage project located in Lost Hills, Kern County, California. The agreement encompasses a 65 MWac solar and 25 MW (100 MWh) battery energy storage system facility, designed to support Pioneer’s expansion plans and help achieve its renewable energy goals. The project is expected to achieve commercial operation in 2026, with Origis Energy responsible for the development, construction, and operation of the entire facility.

As the developer, Origis Energy will sell power to Pioneer to support its service area expansion into 13 new regions. The technical pathway includes solar power generation and a battery energy storage system, combined with the binding 20-year long-term agreement, ensuring power supply meets the new customer load requirements. Simultaneously, the project will help Pioneer maintain competitive electricity rates and enhance its energy sustainability in California.

Greg Janda, Vice Chair of the Pioneer Board and Rocklin City Councilmember, emphasized that this collaboration coincides with Pioneer’s service expansion period, effectively delivering clean energy and strengthening storage capacity. Origis Energy CEO Vikas Anand stated that this agreement represents a significant step in the company’s strategy to provide low-cost power to customers nationwide. Geographically, Pioneer serves multiple cities in Placer and El Dorado counties, including Auburn and Rocklin, covering nearly one million residents. The project’s activation mechanism is based on the 2026 commercial operation schedule and will be implemented directly through the agreement.
