U.S. Arevon Launches $2 Billion Solar-Storage Project, Localized Battery Manufacturing to Power 266,000 Homes
Arevon Energy announced the full commercial operation of its $2 billion Eland Solar-plus-Storage Project in California, one of the largest facilities of its kind in the United States. With a total investment exceeding $2 billion, the project boasts a capacity of 758MWdc solar and 300MW/1,200MWh energy storage. It is expected to power over 266,000 homes annually, meeting 7% of Los Angeles' total electricity demand, marking a critical milestone in California's clean energy transition.

Arevon developed, owns, and operates the project. Eland 1 achieved commercial operation by the end of 2024, with Eland 2 fully launching recently. The project utilizes 172 Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries (LFP), manufactured locally in Lathrop, California. These batteries enable rapid discharge to enhance grid stability during extreme weather and mitigate blackout risks. LFP technology is safer than traditional lithium-ion batteries, with no reported fires since its commercial introduction in 2019. The project created approximately 1,000 jobs and is projected to pay over $36 million to local governments throughout its lifespan, supporting schools, public services, and infrastructure upgrades.

Multiple officials emphasized the project's role in advancing California's 2035 goal of 100% clean energy during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stated that the Eland project pushes the city's share of clean energy above 60%. Power generated is distributed to LADWP and GWP through long-term agreements with the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA). The project has already supported local communities, such as partnering with the Safe Haven Kid's League to provide food security and educational programs. Geographic tags include the Mojave area and Los Angeles region in California. The activation mechanism is that the project is fully operational and continuously contributing to regional sustainable development.
