Description
Ceramic GPV (Gap Protection Voltage) fuses play an important protective role in electrical systems. They are designed to break the circuit when there is a voltage or current overload, preventing damage to wiring and equipment.
GPV fuses contain a ceramic casing filled with sand or similar granular material. When too much current passes through, the granular material overheats and vaporizes, creating an arc that breaks the circuit. This interrupts the flow of electricity before heat buildup can cause a fire.
The ceramic casing provides insulation, allowing the fuse to operate safely even when hot. It has a small gap that must be bridged by the arc to complete the circuit. This gap requires a higher voltage to restart the flow of electricity after tripping, helping to ensure the problem is resolved before power is restored.
By quickly disconnecting affected circuits, ceramic GPV fuses help safeguard lives and property against electrical hazards. They play a vital protective role in buildings, infrastructure and various appliances or devices that utilize electricity. Proper fuse rating and timely replacement are important to maintain this safeguarding function over the lifespan of electrical systems.
